I have tried to clear the system cache and unistall/re-install the app but to no avail. I contacted microsoft/xbox and they said that because all the other apps work (netflix, youtube, amazon prime) the fault lies with sky. Due to covid-19 i am working from home so i have to use my laptop for that so i can't watch sky on that device.
